Data sources and methodology

Effective October 19, 2026. Saturview is operated by AnovaGrowth.

Where Saturview’s football data comes from, the terms that apply to it, how our models use it, and who owns the names and images on the site.

1. How we use this data

Saturview is a commercial product. AnovaGrowth sells a paid Premium plan, and the free part of the site exists alongside it. Every source below is used to build Saturview as a whole, free and paid parts alike.

2. Where the data comes from

SourceWhat Saturview usesHow we get itTerms
cfbfastR-data (SportsDataverse)Schedules, results, rosters, player statistics and play-by-play data, current and past seasonsDownloaded from the project’s public repository at fixed versionsLicensed under CC BY 4.0, which allows commercial use with credit. See section 4.
ESPNLive scores, game summaries and box scores (the games Saturview’s team and player statistics are totaled from), team, roster and coach details, final results used to grade Newton’s picks, team logo images and player photosCollected automatically by our servers from ESPN’s publicly reachable web services. Player photos are fetched by our server when a page needs one.ESPN is not affiliated with Saturview and does not sponsor or endorse it.
CollegeFootballData.comBetting lines (our main source): the point spreads and totals sportsbooks publish for each game, shown as one consensus line (the middle value across books) next to Newton’s numbers and used to grade Newton against the market. Also roster talent ratings, and for model research some game dataIts API, with our own key. Lines are collected a few times a day.Its terms allow commercial use and model training, and limit redistributing its data. Saturview shows its lines inside the product and does not offer them as a feed or download.
Public sportsbook listingsBetting lines, only as a fallback: when our main source cannot supply a current line for a game (for example when our monthly allowance with it is used up), the consensus line shown for that game comes from point spreads published on public sports websitesCollected automatically by our servers, only when needed and at most a few times a dayShown only as the same consensus line inside the product, never as a feed or download, and never used to grade Newton against the market. Lines collected this way before October 17, 2026 are not shown.
247Sports Team Talent CompositeOne roster talent number per team per seasonThrough the CollegeFootballData.com APIProduced by 247Sports, a CBS Interactive property. 247Sports is not affiliated with Saturview and does not endorse it.

The SportsDataverse project says its data is built from sources that include ESPN and CollegeFootballData.com. The app’s screens use plain labels such as “roster talent” instead of naming sources, and this page is where the full detail lives.

3. How the ratings, picks and forecasts are built

Team ratings and rankings

Saturview’s ratings estimate how many points a team would beat an average FBS team by on a neutral field. They are refit from completed games as the season goes. Roster talent sets where each team starts before the season and counts less as games are played. Injuries and weather are not part of any rating.

Newton’s picks

Newton’s picks come from Newton v3, a model that forecasts each game’s margin and win chance from pregame information: team strength, how each offense and defense has played this season against the opponents it faced, rest and travel. Confirmed availability of a team’s starting quarterback can change a pick. The model was built on earlier seasons and tested on full seasons it had not seen. It does not use betting lines.

A pick is updated as new data arrives and locks at kickoff. Newton’s record grades the last version made before kickoff, using the final score, and keeps every earlier version as history.

Newton and the market

Next to Newton’s line and projected score, Saturview shows the market’s consensus line for the same game. Newton’s record against the market counts only picks made before kickoff, graded against the last line recorded before kickoff, or, for games that finished before we began collecting lines, the closing line reported afterwards. Only lines from CollegeFootballData.com are graded; a line filled in from public sportsbook listings is shown on cards but never graded. It shows where the market did better as well as where Newton did. Betting lines are shown as information, not betting advice, and Saturview does not take or place bets.

Models still being tested

We also test experimental models, some of which learn from saved pregame information that includes recorded betting lines. They make no public picks. One could replace Newton v3 only after beating it on the same games, forecast before kickoff.

Forecasts and the Sims lab

Season forecasts, playoff odds and the Sims lab run thousands of simulated seasons or games from the ratings. They show a range of outcomes, not a prediction that one of them will happen.

Ask Newton

Ask Newton uses an outside AI model to choose and explain Saturview’s own records in answer to your question. It does not change the ratings or picks, and your questions are not used to train Saturview’s models. The Privacy Policy explains which AI providers receive questions and what they may do with them.

What the models never use

No personal information about Saturview users, no Ask Newton conversations and no account or billing data go into any model.

4. Credits and licenses

Saturview has changed this data: we filter it to FBS games and rosters, normalize it, combine it with other sources and compute our own ratings and statistics from it. Software and fonts. Saturview is built with open-source software used under each project’s license. The Inter typeface is used under the SIL Open Font License.

Illustrations. The stadium picture on the dashboard’s team card was made with an AI image tool. It doesn’t show a real venue, team or player.

5. Team names, logos and player photos

Team names, logos and other marks belong to their schools, conferences and other owners. NCAA and College Football Playoff marks belong to their owners. Saturview uses them only to identify teams. Saturview is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by the NCAA, any conference, school, team, player, media company or sportsbook.

Team logo images and player photos on Saturview come from ESPN’s image service. They belong to their owners and are shown only to identify teams and players.

If you own a name, logo, photo or other material on Saturview and want it changed or removed, email newton@saturview.app. We will review it and act promptly.

6. Accuracy and changes

Outside data can be late, incomplete or corrected after the fact. When a source corrects a score or statistic, Saturview updates its records. We may add, replace or stop using a source at any time, and this page will say so. If you spot an error, email newton@saturview.app.

7. Team and player statistics

The season statistics, leaders and box scores in Saturview are totals Saturview adds up itself from the box scores of completed games. That is public game data: counts of what was recorded, such as yards, attempts, tackles and sacks. We check our totals against a second compilation of the same game data. That check shows our arithmetic is right; it is not an independent count, and where the two differ we follow the game’s current box score. For some earlier seasons, the defensive player totals (tackles, sacks and pass breakups) come from season totals in that second compilation rather than from the individual box scores.

These statistics are not official. A school, a conference or the NCAA may count a play differently, and a figure for the current season can be corrected after the fact. Averages and rankings only use the games where a statistic was recorded, and the app says how many games stand behind each number.
